Daily Brains · one snapshot of a room, a few seconds to look, eight questions.

Recall is the memory test in Daily Brains (/daily). Each day everyone gets the same snapshot of a room: three rows of everyday things on two shelves and the floor, plus a window, a wall clock and a poster. You study it against the clock, the photo fades, and you answer eight questions about what you saw. The room and the questions are generated from the puzzle number, and every question is built from the scene's own data, so it always has exactly one right answer.

STORY & LORE

The polaroid

The photo arrives undeveloped. Tap Develop and it fades in; in the last four seconds it yellows and blurs away like an old snapshot. While you answer, the room is removed from the page entirely. At the end it develops again, with your tap answers circled, so you can see what you missed.

What can be in the room

Seventeen kinds of object: cups, books, apples, candles, balls, rubber ducks, bottles, presents (these can come in groups of up to four), and a lamp, plant, cat, umbrella, vase, hat, teapot, fishbowl and toy robot. Each has its own set of colours. The window shows sunny, rainy, snowy or a starry night; the clock shows a time; the poster shows a word or a number.

HOW IT PLAYS

The questions

Colours ("What colour was the umbrella?"), counts ("How many cups were there?"), the clock, the poster, the weather, which object was or was NOT in the room, which thing was a given colour, what sat directly left of, right of, above or below something, two-step questions ("What colour was the thing directly below the lamp?") and tap-the-spot questions on an empty copy of the room. A question never names an object that a later 'was it in the room?' question asks about, so the sheet itself gives nothing away.

The week gets harder

Difficulty follows the weekday. More objects, less time, look-alikes (the same object twice in different colours, so the question has to say which one), harder clock times, longer poster numbers and more positional and two-step questions as the week goes on.

Scoring

Each right answer is worth 100 points plus a speed bonus of up to 25 (full if you answer within 3 seconds, fading to nothing at 12). The maximum is 1000. Four or more right answers count as a win and keep your streak; eight out of eight is a perfect day. You only learn whether each answer was right, not what the right answer was, until the end.

Controls

Tap or click an answer, or press 1–4. On tap questions, tap a dashed spot, or move with the arrow keys and press Enter. Enter starts the photo and also ends the study time early.
