Harvest Game — Bring back twelve strands. Do not ask what they are made of.

Harvest Game is a short visual fiction told through full-screen field, harvester, inspection, and factory images. Wake at the thread fields, bring twelve strands to the Threadsmen, and learn what the inspection was actually counting.[citation needed]

Plot

The Daily Count

Every morning, harvesters walk the green thread fields and return with twelve pale strands. The Threadsmen call it work. Nobody calls it voluntary.

Inside-Out

The inspection does not measure weight alone. It tests the tension of a strand and whether it answers when pulled. That is how the Threadsmen decide what a person is full of.

Characters

The HarvesterHero
A worker with an unfinished answer

You wake wearing a name that has been removed from your robe and a daily count that cannot be missed.

Quota: 12 strands · Tool: Thread-scythe
MaraAlly
The harvester who hears the humming

Mara’s thread started humming at night. She was told that was lucky.

Fear: Sleep · Hope: Someone else heard it too
Old Tal
Keeper of a red seed

Tal says the Threadsmen do not count what you carry in. They count what answers when they pull.

Keepsake: One red seed · Advice: Do not be seen planting it
The Threadsman
Inspector of proper direction

A precise, gentle official who knows what is inside every worker before they do.

Standard: Correct tension · Machine: Thread drill

Gameplay

A Short Day

Use the numbered choices or tap a choice. Harvest three rows to reach twelve strands, then return to the inspection house. The thread count is the only persistent on-screen status; the rest of the screen belongs to the scene.

Conversations

The other harvesters offer the small human warnings that make the day feel less empty. Their conversation changes what the player learns, not the required count.

One Ending, Different Witnesses

Choices shape what you learn and what you carry into the last scene. The inspection is a ritual with a fixed conclusion.

Version history

  1. Version F (2026-09-15)
    • Genre moved from Adventure to Adventure › Horror. Categories are two levels now — overarching genres with sub-genres beneath them — so this is a more precise shelf rather than a different one: the game still appears under Adventure.
  2. Version E (2026-09-14)
    • The two declared achievements now actually fire. DAILY COUNT unlocks on reaching inspection — the choice that gets you there is disabled until you hold all twelve strands, so arriving IS the twelve-strand bundle it describes — and STILL THINKING unlocks at the ending. They had been declared since launch and were unreachable: the game never called unlock() at all, so the game page advertised two achievements nobody could ever earn.
    • Removed the vestigial submitScore. Its value was thread*10, which is 120 for everybody who finishes, and the manifest correctly has leaderboard:false.
  3. Version D (2026-09-14)
    • Fixed a dead TIX faucet. The manifest promised Tickets and the game awarded none. It now pays 1 Ticket when the story starts and 2 for `complete_harvest` when it actually reaches the end — the two reasons the manifest declared all along.
  4. Version C (2026-08-03)
    • Layout rebuilt to fit the game frame at any shape. The story was laid out as a scrolling page, so on a short frame the choices fell past the bottom edge with no way to reach them. The illustration now takes a share of the height and the reading pane takes the rest, scrolling internally when a passage runs long.
    • Type sizes now scale off vmin rather than vw, so a short wide frame no longer gets headline text sized for a tall one.
  5. Version B (2026-07-24)
    • Removed the leaderboard: the thread count is a fixed 0-12 story gate, not a competitive score, so ranking it was meaningless. Harvest Game is now presented as pure interactive fiction with no board.
  6. Version A (2026-07-20)
    • Initial release: a full-screen visual fiction using the supplied HarvestGame moodboard art.
    • Includes a complete short interactive-fiction loop, score submission, mobile-safe choices, and a content warning for fictional body horror.
    • Updated the game text with the local Abaddon II font by Jeda (listed as free by the source).
