Tap to fly. Don't touch the walls. It only gets worse.

Hell Copter is a one-button flyer in the Flappy Bird / classic 'Helicopter Game' mould: tap (or click, or Space) to lift, let gravity pull you back down, and thread the gaps between the pipes. Proudly stupid and minimal — but now the pipes glow red-hot, embers drift up from below, the screen reddens as you speed up, and crashing goes out in a shower of fire. (Currently v0.75 — Beta.)

STORY & LORE

Just keep flying

No story, no goal beyond the next gap. The purest possible arcade loop — the only thing between you and a higher score is your own thumb rhythm, and the walls are getting hotter.

HOW IT PLAYS

One-button lift

Every tap kicks the copter upward; stop tapping and gravity takes over. Fly in a steady rhythm — over-flap and you smack the ceiling, under-flap and you sink into the floor. The copter tilts with its speed so you can read a climb from a drop at a glance.

Thread the hot pipes

Pipes scroll in from the right with a gap in the middle, their edges glowing red-hot. Fly through to score. Every 5 pipes the scroll speed ticks up — and as it does, the background reddens and a danger vignette creeps in from the edges. There's no top end.

Fiery crash

Clip a pipe or hit the floor and the copter bursts into a shower of embers with a screen-shake and a crunchy retro crash. Your score is submitted to the leaderboard, and it's one tap to dive back in.

Heat, drift and the shade of the tips

The run does not just get faster, it gets hotter. Embers thicken and a haze creeps along the floor the further you fly, all of it capped so the pipes stay readable and a weak machine keeps its frame rate -- the inferno reaches full strength around 220 and stops there. Nothing moves except you until 100. From there the pipes begin to breathe, and the drift builds until 450 -- where it STOPS. Past that the only thing still rising is speed, so a long run never turns into a coin flip. Every 50 the molten caps on the pipe ends shift shade, cycling through a narrow red-to-amber band. It is a quiet way to feel how deep you are without looking at the number.

The scorched copter

Crash three times in a row without passing a single pipe and the helicopter is permanently burnt: red-brown body, soot marks, a cooked rotor and a trail of smoke behind it. It never washes off. Passing even one pipe resets the streak, so you have to fail three times cleanly to earn it.

VERSION HISTORY

VERSION C2026-08-20
  • Fixed BEST. It was a plain variable that reset to 0 on every page load, so the crash screen showed a 'best' far below the player's real leaderboard score. It now loads from the account (or local storage when signed out) and is written back whenever it improves. Leaderboard scores were never affected -- only the number shown in-game.
  • Nine achievements: crash at zero, and passing 10, 50, 69, 150, 500, 666 and 1111 -- plus Scorch The Helicopter.
  • Easter egg: three crashes in a row at zero permanently scorches the copter. Burnt body, soot, cooked rotor, smoke trail. It does not come off.
  • Heat now builds with distance -- more embers, a floor haze -- with hard caps on particle count, spawn rate and glow so it never costs frames or hides a pipe. The danger vignette deliberately does NOT stack with heat.
  • Pipes drift from 100, building until 450 and capping there. Speed keeps rising after that; the drift does not.
  • The molten pipe caps change shade every 50.
  • Cloud save enabled -- best score, crash streak and the scorched skin follow the account.
VERSION B2026-07-27
  • Kept it deliberately minimal, but added a little fire and urgency: pipe edges now glow red-hot, embers drift up from below, and the background + a danger vignette redden as the scroll speed climbs.
  • Added a retro audio layer (it was silent before): a square-wave flap and score blip plus a noise+saw crash.
  • Crashing now bursts into fiery particles with a screen-shake.
  • Verified drag/tap at phone viewport; marked mobile-friendly. Graded v0.75 (Beta).
  • Studio: John (one of the site's original founder prototypes).
VERSION A2026-07-27
  • First wiki, documenting the game as catalogued (v0.2 — early prototype): one-button lift, tower gaps, per-gap scoring, speed ramp, leaderboard submit.
  • Studio: John.
